it's beginning to look a lot like spring.

despite the fact that it has been quite chilly outside. and ok, i admit the frequent rain showers don't exactly scream spring. still rocking the rainboots... but, the birds are chirping. {even at 2.30am.} the trees have leaves. and the daffodils are blooming. the ratio of sandals to rain jackets is changing slightly, in favor of sandals. it even sometimes smells like fresh-cut grass outside. so, yes, it is starting to look like spring here in seattle. don't believe me? look out your window. there. see that patch of blue in the sky? in the words of mister rogers, "it's a beautiful day in this neighborhood."

haiku.

i just saw a news article today about a 19-year-old girl who staged a hunger strike, in hopes of receiving an invitation to the royal wedding. the good news is, estibalis chavez ended her 16-day fast, after receiving a plane ticket to london from a sympathetic benefactor. the bad news is, chavez "is now in spain with little cash, even less time, but plenty of determination to get to london for the big event on friday." {alicia leon | reuters}

view the entire reuters article here.

and now a thoughtfully prepared haiku poem. {i haven't composed one of these since elementary school, so forgive my amateur skills.}

royal wedding dreams

hunger strike in mexico

she won’t give up hope

fairy tale come true

now in spain with little cash

will she make it there?

joking aside, of all things to starve yourself over, this girl chooses the royal wedding. frankly, i find that disgusting. not receiving an invitation to the wedding of prince william and kate middleton is in no way comparable to some of the terrible injustices of this world. children starving to death in third world countries. hiv/aids epidemic in africa. the list goes on...

sunday song of the day - easter edition.

love. love. love. this song is relaxing, yet upbeat. it reminds me of summer & happiness. and driving in the car with the windows rolled all the way down.

{oh and this song really has nothing to do with easter. besides the fact that i've been listening to it all afternoon and today happens to be easter.}

enjoy this sweet sweet melody. and hippity hoppity easter to all who celebrate the holiday!

arrested development.

i was recently introduced to arrested development and let me tell you, this show is absolutely hilarious. the kind of funny that makes you laugh out loud. it took me a few episodes to really get into it, but now i can't stop watching! {in fact i definitely did not finish the whole first season this past weekend. i mean, who has time to do that?} the characters are so comical and, frankly, totally nuts. the humor is clever and quirky. no laugh track, documentary-ish feel, lots of inside jokes. {so thank you netflix for making the first three seasons available on instant view. and therefore making it virtually impossible for me to get anything else done.}

stop...kitchen time.

i'm a total foodie and love to try out new recipes, as often as possible. consequently, i tend to spend a lot of time drooling on my keyboard while perusing bon appรฉtit magazine online. here is a collection of food blogs that i absolutely adore and am inspired by, on a regular basis:

smitten kitchen - nyc cooking with flair. simple ingredients produce delicious dishes.

{sweet potatoes with pecans & goat cheese}

serious eats - i love the photograzing section of this blog where members of the serious eats community share photos of their latest masterpieces. a superb way to find a new recipe.

{zucchini tart by laura adamache}

bakerella - sweet treats that are easy to bake. soooo scrumptious.

{pound cake & petit fours}

the pioneer woman cooks - amazing photography + mouth watering food. divine.

{vegetable lasagna}

happy cooking. :)

number 35.

watch an SU basketball game at key arena.

i went to exactly one basketball game this year, back in january. {this post is long overdue.} i obviously have a lot of school spirit. actually, i'm just not a huge fan of basketball. i'm much more a football type of girl...go ducks!

{blurry blurry snapshot, but nonetheless proof i was there}

these are a few of my favorite things.

waking up to blue skies and sunshine. pink ballpoint pens. listening to my favorite song over and over. cooking really yummy italian food. chocolate. political debates with papa bear. coloring books and crayons. the salty smell of the ocean. splashing in mud puddles. curling up with a cup of tea and a good book. earmuffs. watching movies until i can't keep my eyes open anymore. getting my hair cut. opening up a new tube of lip balm. skyping with my far-away friends. coffee dates with mopsy. clean sheets. snow flakes and hot chocolate. the sound of paint brush bristles against canvas. eating animal crackers on the train. star gazing on a clear night. people-watching in the mall. honey mustard pretzels. swim suits and sunglasses. going to target with little sis. the smell of christmas trees. seattle at nighttime.

{hipstamatic app = another of my favorite things}

isn't she lovely.

my baby sister's all grown up! who is this stunning young lady and what did she do with my little "noodles"? this past weekend was n's senior prom and i was lucky enough to make it home for the weekend. it was so much fun seeing her surrounded by all her beautiful friends and her handsome date. i can't believe this one's heading off to college next year. wow. just wow.

{seriously though, this little guy's got some mad ukulele skills. and is very expressive and entertaining, to boot!} happy sunday :)
