you know it's halloween when...

you order a pumpkin spice latte at your local starbucks...and receive a bonus treat.

{looks pretty normal, eh?}

{could it be a slice of lemon pound cake? or pumpkin bread?}

{hmmmm...}

{it's candy corn!}

thanks starbucks barista for making my day!

it's beginning to look a lot like spring.

despite the fact that it has been quite chilly outside. and ok, i admit the frequent rain showers don't exactly scream spring. still rocking the rainboots... but, the birds are chirping. {even at 2.30am.} the trees have leaves. and the daffodils are blooming. the ratio of sandals to rain jackets is changing slightly, in favor of sandals. it even sometimes smells like fresh-cut grass outside. so, yes, it is starting to look like spring here in seattle. don't believe me? look out your window. there. see that patch of blue in the sky? in the words of mister rogers, "it's a beautiful day in this neighborhood."

haiku.

i just saw a news article today about a 19-year-old girl who staged a hunger strike, in hopes of receiving an invitation to the royal wedding. the good news is, estibalis chavez ended her 16-day fast, after receiving a plane ticket to london from a sympathetic benefactor. the bad news is, chavez "is now in spain with little cash, even less time, but plenty of determination to get to london for the big event on friday." {alicia leon | reuters}

view the entire reuters article here.

and now a thoughtfully prepared haiku poem. {i haven't composed one of these since elementary school, so forgive my amateur skills.}

royal wedding dreams

hunger strike in mexico

she won’t give up hope

fairy tale come true

now in spain with little cash

will she make it there?

joking aside, of all things to starve yourself over, this girl chooses the royal wedding. frankly, i find that disgusting. not receiving an invitation to the wedding of prince william and kate middleton is in no way comparable to some of the terrible injustices of this world. children starving to death in third world countries. hiv/aids epidemic in africa. the list goes on...

these are a few of my favorite things.

waking up to blue skies and sunshine. pink ballpoint pens. listening to my favorite song over and over. cooking really yummy italian food. chocolate. political debates with papa bear. coloring books and crayons. the salty smell of the ocean. splashing in mud puddles. curling up with a cup of tea and a good book. earmuffs. watching movies until i can't keep my eyes open anymore. getting my hair cut. opening up a new tube of lip balm. skyping with my far-away friends. coffee dates with mopsy. clean sheets. snow flakes and hot chocolate. the sound of paint brush bristles against canvas. eating animal crackers on the train. star gazing on a clear night. people-watching in the mall. honey mustard pretzels. swim suits and sunglasses. going to target with little sis. the smell of christmas trees. seattle at nighttime.

{hipstamatic app = another of my favorite things}

silly sunday.

i dare you to watch this video and not melt at the sheer cuteness and hilarity of this mini- musician.

and now a few video stills of his awesome facials, just in case you didn't catch 'em the first time around:

{seriously though, this little guy's got some mad ukulele skills. and is very expressive and entertaining, to boot!} happy sunday :)

flying spiders. eek!

videos like this one totally bring out my inner geek. so brilliant. but seriously, i will never look at the sky the same. and now i'm slightly terrified that one of them flyin' spiders will come floatin' my way next time i'm outside. ruh-roh!

nostalgia.

today was the last day of classes for winter quarter. geeze louise, time sure flies by! i seriously cannot believe i am only three months away from graduation. so unreal.

at this time next week, i will be completely done with my finals and getting ready to go home for spring break. yay! now to find the motivation to write my theology paper, {the last one ever ever,} and study for exams...which could prove to be a struggle. tonight, instead of beginning to study for finals, i've been watching *nsync music videos from my childhood. much more fun!

facebook is taking over the world.

i have mixed feelings about facebook. on one hand, it can be a great way to stay in touch with friends, share photos and videos. on the other hand, it's a complete waste of time. and an utter distraction. especially when there's a lot to be done in the homework department.

this video demonstrates the cold hard reality of our technology-oriented world. new technology is great, don't get me wrong. but, it worries me that upcoming generations may begin to lose the ability to communicate verbally, face-to-face. that texting seems to be the preferred method of conversation. that some people spend more time in the facebook world, than in the real world.

lazy sunday.

here's an entertaining video of all the places in the world i would rather be right now. basically, anywhere other than in front of my computer, writing a theology midterm paper. and a management research paper. and preparing for a marketing presentation. ...it must be the end of the quarter!
